Shaurya Shakya

I design the interface, then build it.

Currently building

I build products end to end — travafa.com’s interface from zero, a Go payment service, an offline-first sync layer, and a design system used across a whole app. Currently a Software Engineer Intern at Travafa and founder of a live e-pharmacy.

The journey

2023 → now · tap any milestone
    • Started a CSE degree at an Indian Institute of Information Technology. CGPA 8.51/10.
    • Coursework that actually shows up in the work: DSA, DBMS, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, OOP, Software Engineering.
    C++DSADBMSOSNetworks
    • Three Flutter clients — customer, worker and admin — on a Node.js/Express and MongoDB backend.
    • JWT role-based access per tier, Twilio OTP and passwordless email OTP sign-in, bcrypt hashing and rate limiting.
    • Storefront end-to-end: catalog, search, cart, Stripe checkout, order tracking and OneSignal push on order status.
    FlutterNode.jsExpressMongoDBStripeOneSignal
    • Designed a telemedicine app for 173 villages around Nabha, where the constraint is not the feature list — it is a connection that appears for thirty seconds and vanishes.
    • Multilingual by design, not by translated labels: the flows, not just the strings, were built for users whose first language is not English and who may be using a smartphone for the first time.
    • Offline-capable consultation records, so a visit is not wasted when the network is not there.
    • Led a team of six under a 36-hour clock: set the interfaces early so people could work in parallel, and kept one thin end-to-end path working from the start.
    FlutterWebRTCOffline-firstMultilingualTeam lead
    • Closed two money-correctness bugs pre-release after auditing the wallet-service ledger: a refund path that could double-credit a customer after a debit reversal, and a compensating-reversal worker that was fully built but never started from any entrypoint.
    • Built the payment-service from scratch in Go (96 files, ~11K LOC, 7 milestones in 3 weeks): protobuf codegen, domain/repository layer, Razorpay webhook signature verification, a transactional outbox worker on Pub/Sub, an authenticated gRPC server and an admin API binary.
    • Shipped the app's read-only offline layer — local cache, connectivity seeding, write-gating across every trip mutation, offline pack download and sync progress — then fixed sync tripping the server rate limiter.
    • Designed the AI-assistant distribution layer: an MCP connector over the .NET booking APIs with OAuth 2.1, signed price quotes and idempotent writes, serving ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot from one deployment.
    • Delivered days-per-destination trip planning end-to-end, and led a JavaScript → TypeScript migration of the professional dashboard.
    • Built travafa.com's product interface from zero — Explore, Profile, Friends, group Discussions and chat, AI and manual trip creation, itinerary, Group Travel, Transfers and trip-helper services — designing the flows, layouts and shared component library.
    • Designed and shipped the interactive 3D globe, the product's signature surface: route arcs, journal pins and lit countries, "been there" read apart from "want to go", a friends view and fullscreen.
    • Drove a design-system consolidation across the site, redesigning home, product pages, globe and transfers onto shared components so the same problem is answered the same way everywhere.
    • Ran manual UX audits across the web product (102 pages, 397 components) against a launch-readiness checklist, walking flows screen by screen and turning failed cases into shipped fixes.

    • Designed and built the surfaces people actually use: Explore & destination search, Profile, Friends, group Discussions and chat, AI and manual trip creation, the trip itinerary, Group Travel, Transfers and trip-helper services.
    • The interactive 3D globe — route arcs, journal pins and lit countries, with "been there" read apart from "want to go", a friends view, fullscreen and loading skeletons. A travelog that fails to load no longer looks identical to an empty one.
    • Drove a design-system consolidation: home, product pages, globe and transfers rebuilt onto shared components, replacing one-off screens.
    • Owned the information architecture for destination guides — answer blocks, internal linking and navigation structure across the location pages.

    • Android reminder app where a typed or spoken line becomes an exact alarm: an on-device parser handles everyday phrasing and repeats in microseconds, with Gemini as a rate-limited, cached fallback.
    • Offline-first Flutter client (Riverpod, Hive) with AlarmManager exact alarms, notification actions handled in a background isolate, a live home-screen widget and read-aloud reminders in Hindi and English.
    • Family and work teams with owner-set notification rules, snooze escalation and nudges, served by a NestJS API on Oracle Cloud (SQLite/libSQL, JWT, rate limits, FCM) deployed by GitHub Actions.
    • Hardened end to end: rotating refresh tokens with replay detection, server-side recurrence and alarm reconciliation across devices, Pro plans enforced from RevenueCat webhooks, CI with a test gate, health check and rollback — about 320 automated tests.

    • A customer photographs a prescription and ECHS card, a pharmacist verifies it and prices a quote, and medicines reach the door — cash on delivery or Razorpay, live tracking, in-app chat, bilingual English/Hindi.
    • The prescription-to-doorstep flow is a pure, unit-tested 15-state machine where illegal transitions throw, with idempotency keys on every payment path and an audit row behind every status change.
    • Built and run both apps solo: 26 NestJS modules, 159 endpoints, 35 Prisma models, 5 JWT-secured roles, and CI typechecking, testing and building both apps on every push.

    • Open to software engineering and product design internships and new-grad roles.
    • Most interested in the boundary between them: correctness-critical systems with an interface a real person has to use.
